The Mercedes-AMG E63S now has some fair competition with the introduction of BMW’s M5 Competition in the Indian market. The BMW M5 Competition will make its way to India through the CBU route. It is priced 5 lakh more than the Mercedes-AMG E63S at Rs 1.55 crore (ex-showroom).
Under the BMW M5 Competition’s hood is a 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder petrol engine which delivers 625 horses at 6,000 rpm and a 750 Nm of peak torque and is mated to an 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox. The 0 to 100 km/h feat is achieved in 3.3 seconds. The M xDrive drivetrain system lets the driver choose from different configurations based on combinations of DSC modes (DSC on, MDM, DSC off) and M xDrive modes (4WD, 4WD Sport, 2WD). The configurations allow the drive system to be tailored to both the driver’s personal choice and the nature of the journey. You can opt for the rear-wheel-drive too by deactivating the all-wheel-drive system.
Coming to the design of the M5 Competition, the M kidney grille with grille frame, exterior mirror and characteristic M side air vent with M5 designation in Black high-gloss. The BMW M5 Competition features a roof made from extremely lightweight, high-strength carbon fibre reinforced plastic. At the rear, the M rear spoiler is painted in Black-high gloss along with some added chrome touches to the M specific twin tailpipes. You can even spot the ‘Competition’ lettering which is added to black ‘M5’ badge on the boot lid. Also, as optional equipment, there is a laminated M5 Competition designation on the side skirts as well.
On the inside, the M5 Competition gets M Multifunction sport seats with illuminated M5 logo and M Seat belts, the double-spoke design M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, with the M emblem on it and again some chrome detailing too. Talking about the steering wheel, the driver can also use the M Drive M1 and M2 buttons to select the desired settings while driving.

The BMW M5 Competition is offered in several non-metallic and metallic paintworks. The Alpine White paint finish is exclusively available in non-metallic paintwork and Black Sapphire, Singapore Grey, Bluestone, Donington Grey, Marina Bay Blue, Snapper Rocks Blue is offered in metallic paintworks. There are other optional paintworks on offer as well. Well, now that BMW M5 Competition is here, Mercedes-Benz India has a fight on its hands.
