End Of An Era – Volkswagen Beetle Production Discontinued

If you have been in love with cars all your life, you surely know about the Volkswagen Beetle. In a world full of SUVs, luxury sedans, fast sports cars and self-driving cars for that matter, the Volkswagen Beetle is a statement on its own, especially the older vintage models which have been seen in many instances and still serve a lot of people all over the globe.

In an iconic decision, Volkswagen has now discontinued the of the iconic Beetle which was being produced in Puebla, Mexico. The modern iterations of Volkswagen’s Beetle did not really call the buyers, especially male buyers. But in history, it lived for more than 82 years and sold over 25 million units.

More and more buyers have moved to modern vehicles with more features and power which are also fuel-efficient. Conceived in the year 1931 as prototypes, the iconic car has served people as well the military. Volkswagen which also translates to People’s Car, had the world moving with the production of the Beetle. The Beetle not only served the roads but its design and retro charm also made it a featured vehicle in many movies. With the Beetle now seeing the end of the line, we have listed a few movies in which the iconic car was seen in its glory.

Double Trouble (1967)

 

Double Trouble is an American musical film starring Elvis Presley. The comedic plot concerns an American singer who crosses paths with criminals in Europe. You can see Elvis drive a Volkswagen in the movie.

The Love Bug (1968)

 

The Love Bug is an American comedy movie released in 1968. It was directed by Robert Stevenson and the first among series of movies made by Walt Disney Productions. It features a pearl-while 1963 Volkswagen racing Beetle dubbed as Herbie. The movie was based on the 1961 book Car, Boy, Girl written by Gordon Buford.

 

Footloose (1984)

 

The Footloose movie was released in 1984 and is an American musical comedy-drama film directed by Herbert Ross. Starring Kevin Bacon, the movie is based on his attempts to overturn the ban on dancing which has resulted from the efforts of a local politician when his son died while returning from a night of dancing. Well in this movie, you see the Volkswagen Beetle making its appearances.

Happy Gilmore (1996)

The Movie Happy Gilmore is an American sports comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan while the screenplay was written by Adam Sandler in collaboration with Tim Herlihy. The movie starring Sandler show him as an unsuccessful ice hockey player who newly discovers his talent in golf. While the movie takes most of the attention, you can see Sandler with his Volkswagen Beetle

Once Upon a Time – TV Series (2011-2018)

Once Upon a Time is an American fictitious drama television series which first spawned in 2011 and concluded in 2018 with the final season. It was created by Lost and Tron Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Again, the VW beetle has appeared in this television series for a number of times.

Herbie Fully Loaded (2005)

Herbie: Fully Loaded is a American sports-comedy film which was released in 2005 and was directed by Angela Robinson and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. Starring Lindsay Lohan who is an aspiring car racer also features a number of Nascar racers including Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin. It is the sixth and final instalment of the Herbie franchise.

Bumblebee (2018)

The movie Bumblebee comes as a spin-off prequel to the very popular movie franchise Transformers. The movie is directed by Travis Knight and written by Christina Hodson and the first Transformers movie not directed by Micheal Bay who instead becomes the producer. In the early days of the Transformers when the war destroyed their planet Cybertron, Bumblebee has taken refuge on planet earth and also took the form of the Iconic Volkswagen Beetle, as opposed to the Chevrolet Camaro avatar we are used to seeing Bumblebee transform into.
