Another South Korean manufacturer will be entering the Indian markets after Hyundai Motors India’s inception in 1996. Things have changed since then and we are beginning to see the Indian market shifting their attention to the SUV segment. KIA motors are exactly looking to carve its foothold in the already crowded SUV market with its introduction of the Seltos.
KIA motors had displayed their SP concept in Auto Expo 2018, but now finally the production version in the name of Seltos is here. With its global launch in India, the South Korean manufacturer definitely is focusing on the Indian market. In the run-up to the unveiling of the Seltos, we saw a lot of advertisements that showed how the senior designers in KIA motors were determined on getting the design right for its cars. And believe me, the design is stunning of the new Seltos! At the front, the grille resembles a tiger’s nose and above it is a diamond patterned design element that runs through the bonnet. The Seltos stays true to its concept model by retaining the LED DRLs, LED projector headlights, LED turn indicators, and LED fog lamps as well.
Under the hood, KIA motors will have BS VI engines from the Seltos’ launch and will get a new 1.4-litre Turbo-GDI engine paired to a 7-speed DCT transmission, also there will be a petrol engine and a diesel engine variants that will be paired to multiple transmission options. Other transmission options include the IVT, (Intelligent continuously variable transmission) 7-speed DCT, a 6-speed AT along with a 6-speed manual transmission. Good to see an automatic transmission in the diesel powertrain. There will also be three driving modes namely, Normal, Eco, and Sport mode, not only this but it will also give the driver’s an option to choose the grip between mud, wet and sand mode depending on the road condition. On the feature front, it offers first in class segment features like the 360-degree parking camera with front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot view monitor, and heads-up display as well.
Other features include ventilated seats, eco coating technology, UVO technology, tyre pressure monitoring system, and rear door curtains. As far as safety is concerned, it has 6 airbags on offer, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Assist Control, Vehicle Stability Management, among others. The Seltos will also come in GT badging which will be loaded with extra performance and features. Do stay tuned for the launch next month as it will go against the likes of MG Hector and Hyundai Creta.
