What’s fast does not necessarily mean it has to be practical. However Audi’s RS5 Coupe dismisses all these apprehensions, let’s find out why Audi RS5 Coupe was the Editor’s Choice for the performance ‘Car Of The Year 2019’ at our recently concluded Exhibit maiden Auto Tech Awards. The RS5 Coupe’s opulence and dynamism are what had won our hearts back then, with its performance being the cherry on the cake. However, for this particular instance can the RS5 Coupe double-up to be a practical machine for daily use? This is exactly what we are here to find out
What Is It On The Outside?
Coupes are always charming to look at and this one does not disappoint either. In fact, the strong character lines visible up front, especially on the bonnet help set the tone for what is to come. Elements like a black finished hexagonal grille, larger air damps, sharply carved out bumper with a chin spoiler contribute to an aggressive front-end design. To further make the RS5 Coupe look aerodynamic, the designers at Audi have added small grooves on the outer edges of the headlamps and taillights. This gives the car a distinctive effect through with regards to the function they are more for show. That said, the side profile brings forward coupe-like silhouette with side skirts, 20-inch chrome finished alloy wheels and flared wheel arches that add character to this particular section of the car. Towards the rear, a black finished diffuser certainly becomes the focal point while the twin circular exhaust pipes add glamour to the overall design.
How Is It On The Inside?
With so much sportiness on the outside, expect the interiors to be no less. The Audi RS5 Coupe provides an all-black interior that features a well laid out dashboard. Its flat bottom steering wheel and the Virtual Cockpit that has become synonymous with all Audi cars make their presence evident. That said where the RS5 Coupe really makes its mark is in the department of comfort. Considering its sporty characteristic, you will be surprised to know that the front seats are really comfy unlike what you would expect from of a car of this stature. The availability of a massage function on its front seats with thicker cushioning means that short or long commutes are always going to be a breezy affair. However, when you shift to the rear row, due to lack of legroom, it would be best to say that this particular section is meant for children. We really liked the fit and finish of plastics that are of top quality. Its aeroplane inspired gearstick is definitely an object of obsession while the Bang & Olufsen music system with 3D surround sound does enhance the overall onboard experience.
How Does It Drive?
This is the most interesting part that both you and I would be looking forward to. Audi RS5 Coupe packs in a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that would bring a smile to your face each time that you get behind the wheel. It’s an enormous outburst of power, 444 bhp surely has one glued to the edge of the seat this, of course, I am talking about the co-passenger while the driver has all the fun. Just to put things into perspective the performance out here, the RS5 Coupe sprints from 0-100 kmph in just under 3.9 seconds. Presence of an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission ensures that gearshifts are very slick and precise. The Drive Select referring to four different driving modes namely Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual helps you opt for various driving styles. However, my favourite was the Dynamic Mode wherein the V6 unleashed all its might onto the tarmac thereby reeling in the road and cars in front of us at a blistering pace. For city use, its Comfort Mode is ideal as cruising around isn’t really an issue. The suspension setup is such that despite having 20-inch wheels going over potholes and broken roads it is very much an easy affair for this sports car. Presence of Quattro (Audi’s 4-wheel drive system) ensures that the car feels planted at all times and is capable to take on corners with utter ease.
Should I Buy One?
Audi RS5 Coupe is fast as it offers the best of both worlds, performance and comfort. An outright sports car, its Coupe like attributes definitely strikes a chord and so does the fact that it is very much practical to pass off as an everyday car.
