BMW India has launched the highly anticipated M2 competition in India at an aggressive price point of Rs 79.90 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Introduction of BMW M2 Competition to the market means that this would be the stepping stone for M range in BMW India’s performance cars portfolio.
Competing against the likes of Porsche 718 Cayman and Mercedes-AMG CLA 45, BMW M2 Competition features the same 3.0 litre twin-turbo straight six petrol engine that is found on BMW M3 as well as BMW M4. In its detuned state, the M2 Competition produces a maximum power output 405bhp with 550 Nm of peak torque. When we compare it with M3/M4 then one would realise that there is a drop of 39 bhp in its overall power output. It was earlier speculated that BMW would bring in a manual transmission in M2 Competition. However that hasn’t happened, instead, the German automaker has introduced a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Rear wheel drive, the M2 sprints from 0 -100 kmph in just 4.2 seconds. Its top-speed is restricted to 250 kmph. With all that power under the hood, BMW is believed to have stiffened M2 Competition’s chassis. To further enhance its performance, the front and rear axles are made up of lightweight aluminium plus there is BMW’s Active M differential alongside a carbon fibre strut brace among many other things.
Besides performance, the standpoint of BMW M2 Competition is its exterior design. The 2018 version caters to a redesigned kidney grille in a black gloss finish. Adaptive LED headlights are offered as standard fitment while the front end features aggressive front air-intakes like the one available on the M4. The presence of a sculpted spoiler clubbed with quad-exhaust tips express its outright performance characteristics. There are 19-inch alloy wheels on offer with 245/35 section rubber.
The interior, on the other hand, features Dakota leather upholstery with M sports seats. M inspired buttons can also be seen visible on the steering wheel. Illuminated M logo finds itself embossed onto the seats as well as the instrument cluster. Fitted with BMW’s trademarked iDrive infotainment system there are seven speakers on offer with smartphone connectivity. 2018 BMW M2 Competition is being offered in five colours namely Sunset Orange, Long Beach Blue, Alpine White, Hockenheim Silver and Black Sapphire.
