The trailer for Lowriders is out and it clearly sends out the message that this isn’t a movie for “The Fast and the Furious” crowd. Instead, the flick with its indie flavor keeps its feet firmly planted on the drama genre with the focus on a fractured family, with the lowriders car culture and the street art culture painting a vivid background for the plot and characters to thrive in. In fact Lowriders seems to be more about “family” than Fast & Furious can ever be.
Here’s a synopsis of the film: “Lowriders is set against the vibrant backdrop of East LA’s near-spiritual car culture and follows the story of Danny, a talented young street artist caught between the lowrider world inhabited by his old-school father and ex-con brother, and the adrenaline-fueled outlet that defines his self-expression.”
Produced by Telemundo Films, Lowriders stars Eva Longoria (you don’t need references for that), Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Theo Rossi (Luke Cage, Sons of Anarchy), Tony Revolori and Gabriel Chavarria.
Lowriders will reach theaters on May 12.
