The verdict is out as the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has released the list of the best and worst selling cars during the fiscal year 2015-16. Overall the industry witnessed a 7.8% growth and proved to be remarkably good for a handful of manufacturers. But it wasn’t so bright for everyone.
Let’s start with the winners first. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Honda led the race with many of their models featuring in the top 10 list of best-selling cars in India. The numbers are as follows.
The Maruti Suzuki took the top ranks with the Alto taking the crown as the best-selling car in the country followed by Dzire, Swift and Wagon R. The Celerio too found a place at position 7. Hyundai made their presence felt with the Grand i10, Elite i20 and Eon. Honda was represented by the City and Amaze sedans.
Coming to the losers, the list was populated by Renault, Chevrolet and Fiat. The numbers are as follows.
The Renault Fluence kept its spot from last year as the least-selling car in India. The dealers manage to sell a mere 113 units only during the fiscal year. The Renault Pulse and Scala were around to give it company. The ageing Chevrolet Cruze and Sail Uva made it to the list while Fiat’s representation came in the forms of the Avventura and the Linea. Mahindra Vibe, the hatchback based on the Verito sedan didn’t find many takers too. Hyundai Elantra and Volkswagen Jetta sedans rounded off the top 10 worst-selling cars list for the fiscal year.
