Matrix – quite a catchy name that Audi has found for the mildly-updated A6 sedan. For the casual onlooker it is more or less the same car which it replaces. But look closely and you’ll see that a lot has changed. The Matrix gets the new family fascia and that’s the sharper, wider hexagonal grille coupled with the A8-inspired matrix LED headlamps. The changes are reflected in the tail lamps too which have been redesigned. To sweeten the deal, there is a judicious dose of chrome which makes the new car look more pricey and classy than it already is.The interiors have received a mild freshening-up too. Step inside to find the new 8-inch infotainment system, improved voice recognition function, and a 600-watt Bose audio system – everything that you need while you relax in those luxurious leather seats at the rear.
Mechanicals remain the same. But there is a little bit of a hike in the power output. The updated 2.0 litre diesel engine now produces 188bhp of power. The previous version managed to make 174bhp. More power is never a bad thing and to make the car’s power delivery more efficient, there is a new 7-speed S-tronic gearbox. Acceleration figures are pretty good as well for a car of its size and category. 0 to 100kph comes up in 8.4 seconds. We saved the best piece of news for the last. Despite the facelift, the A6 Matrix’s price tag hasn’t gone up. In fact, the new car is cheaper than its predecessor by almost Rs. 1 lakh. And at Rs. 49.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) the A6 Matrix is one hell of a value-for-money package.
