The past couple of years have witnessed a sea change in how Mercedes Benz makes, markets and sells their range of SUVs and soft-roaders. Experiments with the A Class platform led to the creation of the highly successful GLA while purists still get the rugged utility of the capable GL. The space between these two is filled up by the GLE (renamed M-Class), the GLE Coupe and the GLC (GLK successor); all of which being competent enough to pick up the broken trail when the need arises.
Introductions aside, Mercedes Benz has launched a Hollywood trailer-esque commercial titled “Inspiration” to promote its entire SUV range. With an epic score, breathtaking cinematography and a fabulous voiceover, the ad will drive any car enthusiast to go out, rob a bank and buy one of these magnificent machines – robbing a bank being the optional part.
The brand roped in all its ambassadors in for this shoot. It starts with surfer Garrett McNamara driving a GLA. The action then moves to F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton behind the wheel of GLE Coupe. This is followed by show-jumping champ Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum putting the GLE through the paces. Glitz and glamour is added to the mix as supermodel Petra Nemcova is featured with the GLC. Explorer Mike Horn takes the final spot with the G-Class – the blue-blooded offroader which matches his profile of an all-conquering adventurer.
With the new GLS (renamed GL-Class) joining the “Famous Five” real soon as the flagship model, Merc will become a force to reckon with in the luxury SUV segment. Until then, the trailer will keep us inspired to explore and experience the thrills of adventure and of course keep that dream of owning a Merc SUV, alive.
