THE BIG CAT
What is it?
Jaguar is a luxury carmaker which isn’t really known to make SUVs. However, with the changing times and the increasing demands, they build one last year and boy oh boy did it work wonders for them! It grabbed the much coveted ‘World Car of the Year’ award year this year and that by all means is no small feat even when it comes to its Size!
How does it look?
Yes, it does resemble to the other Jags this is the all new Jaguar F Pace and this is the first ever SUV to come out of Jaguar’s stable and haven’t they done a wonderful job aesthetically! If you look at the front of the car closely, you’ll realize that it has a face similar to its siblings with a broad grille, sleek headlights and muscular bulges running along the bonnet. Despite resembling all the other Jags in the line-up, the F-Pace still manages to look very SUV-like.
Hows it on the inside?
The F-Pace is rather well equipped in terms of features. We have with us the R-Sport variant which comes with a 10.2-inch infotainment unit is quite impressive with good resolution, neat animations and decent touch response. This system is linked to a fabulous 11-speaker 380W Meridian sound system but can be optioned with a 17-speaker 825W Meridian system (standard on the First Edition). While it uses Jaguar’s InControl Touch application to sync your phone, things would have been a lot simpler if it just supported Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Whats under the Hood?
Under the hood of the F-Pace R-Sport is 3.0-litre V6 diesel which puts out 300bhp of power and a very very healthy 700Nm of torque. The responsiveness from the engine is incredible and the car picks up speed so easily that you often run out of roads! The gearbox is nice and smooth and shifts between cogs just like any other dual-clutch unit. It even gets a Sport driving mode which turns things up a notch!
Shall I buy one?
Well, it goes without saying that nothing in the Indian market grabs more eyeballs than a Jaguar. And since we as Indians love SUVs more than anything, the F Pace is very very attractive vehicle. And as we have just discovered, it’s not just about the looks, the F Pace feels great from behind the wheel as well. The only disappointing bit on the car is its high asking price, mainly because this is a CBU(completely build up) and is subject to heavy excise duty. If the last bit doesn’t really matter to you and you have Rs.1.3 Cr(approx on road price) at your disposal, the F Pace makes a very strong case for itself!
