The tall boy design market competition has now spiced up as Maruti Suzuki has announced their CNG variant today for their recently launched Wagon R. The new Wagon R was launched in India on 23rd January 2019 and at the time of launch, the CNG variant wasn’t introduced, but it was communicated that the CNG variant would soon make its way in the Summer. The Hyundai Santro’s CNG variant begins from Rs 5.24 lakh, which makes the Wagon R cheaper by Rs 40,000.
The new Wagon R S-CNG is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which produces 68bhp and 90Nm of torque when is being run on petrol and 59bhp and 78Nm of torque when running on CNG. It has no automatic transmission on offer and has an option of a 5-speed manual. Whereas, the Santro’s CNG variant has a 1.1-litre petrol engine which delivers 68bhp and 99Nm of torque when running on petrol and 58bhp and 84Nm when switched to CNG.
The Wagon R CNG will come in two variants, the base LXi variant is priced at Rs 4.84 lakh and the LXi (O) variant is priced at Rs 4.89 lakh. However, the Wagon R CNG is only available in the base models as compared to the Hyundai Santro CNG which is offered in the Magna and Sportz variant. The Hyundai Santro CNG starts from Rs 5.24 lakh.
