Indian automobile company Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to the launch of XUV300. The compact SUV will be introduced in India on February 14 and as the date nears, more and more details are coming out about the vehicle, which is going to challenge the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Creta

3 Things That makes It Worth A Grab

  • Gets various segment-first features including seven airbags, dual-zone climate control and front parking sensors, among others.
  • Standard safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
  • Likely to be priced from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

The compact SUV is based on a similar platform as that of SsangYong Tivoli, which has itself scored four stars at the Euro NCAP crash test results. Euro NCAP has created the five-star safety rating system determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by it, representing important real life accident scenarios. According to Mahindra and Mahindra’s chief of sales and marketing Veejay Ram Nakra, XUV300 will compete with the SUVs in the Rs 8-12 lakh (ex-showroom) price bracket.

Let’s Take A Peep Inside

It’s here that the XUV300 is more Tivoli. Instead of redoing the interiors, Mahindra has carried over a lot of bits like the dashboard, steering and switchgear. This works out to be a good thing because the quality of parts is very good, the switches all have a quality feel to their operation, with the only bad thing being the slim, red HVAC buttons on the central instrument panel are too narrow to operate comfortably. The glossy red hue also makes them look more like warning lights rather than buttons. Another sore point is the gear lever and the centre armrest are a bit too tall. In terms of storage, the door pockets are large enough and there are a few cubbyholes, a centre console box, and a glovebox with a wide storage shelf above it. You also get seatback ‘pockets’ that are actually elastic bands; they look unique but aren’t very practical. As for the boot, it’s pretty small and it has a very high loading lip.

Make A Move… Pre-Book

The bookings for XUV300 opened on January 9 in country-wide Mahindra dealerships and on their official website. Consumers interested in the car can pre-book it by paying Rs 20,000.
