2019 is going to attract a lot of eyeballs toward the electric vehicles. Coming this January, Polestar gave a sneak peek of its second electric vehicle which they mentioned will come into production in mid to late 2019. The picture released by Polestar Cars on Twitter showed the Polestar 2’s roof and rear from a top angle. One thing is certain that it will be based on a fastback design with a wider body.
A fair observation can be made from the teaser as a light strip runs across the entire width of the rear which dissipates at the outer edges. It looks a lot similar to the concept electric vehicle by Audi, the e-tron GT fastback, as far as the taillights design is concerned. And Audi has claimed that they won’t launch their fastback e-tron until 2021. Well, it’s going to cost a bomb too, that’s for sure. On the other hand, the Polestar 2 should probably cost around $35,000 to $40,000 which will directly challenge Tesla’s Model 3.
Speculations say that the Polestar 2 will give a range of 300 miles in full charge and will generate 400 horsepower to the wheels as stated earlier in 2018. During its press release Polestar mentioned about Model 3 and the CEO, Thomas Ingenlath said, “We are not saying it’s a Tesla killer, we are here to vividly compete with them in the market. We will launch Polestar 2 in the second half of 2019 and production will begin around the start of 2020.”
Overall, it will be an exciting year as Tesla will now have a competitor. CES 2019 will showcase some really cool concept electric vehicles, stay tuned for more insight on them.
