The first product to be introduced by Honda Car India in 2019 would the Civic. Scheduled for February launch, the Japanese automaker is in the thick of testing due to which one such unit of Honda Civic was spotted recently in Delhi NCR Region. Showcased at last year’s Auto Expo, the Civic would be re-introduced into the Indian market for the second time after the absence of almost 6 years.
Globally, the Honda Civic recently received a facelift and it is this version that would come to India. Some of the key highlights include an aggressive hood, a piano-black finish grille that extends into the headlamps on either side. Presence of an angular bumper with chrome finishing around fog lamp housing further brings out the front design. While the rear has a wedged tailgate that features a chrome strip and a pair of arrow-shaped taillights. In addition to these, the 2019 Honda Civic will get a new alloy wheel design as well.
Its wheelbase remains unchanged, however, what we do know is that the length and width of this sedan have been increased due to which now the cabin would offer a better shoulder and legroom for its occupants. Normally in foreign markets, the Honda Civic comes with an all black interior but in India’s case, the dual-tone theme could be on the cards. There would be a new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto, Apple Car Play and satellite navigation.
Unlike earlier Honda would be offering the Civic with both petrol and diesel derivatives. The petrol that happens to be the 1.8-litre i-VTEC unit would produce a maximum power output of 140 bhp. It would come matted to a 6-speed manual gearbox alongside a CVT transmission featuring paddle shifters. The biggest change, however, is the introduction of a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine that is also found in recently introduced Honda CR-V. This powertrain is good for producing 118 bhp as it comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and an all-new 9-speed automatic gearbox.
In the Indian market, 2019 Honda Civic will compete against the likes of Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla.
