If you’re looking for a performance hatch and simultaneously do not want to burn a hole in your pocket, Tata Motors India is now ready to enter deep waters of the performance car markets by launching the Tiago’s JTP variant. Tata is throwing a challenge to Maruti to take on its performance variant in the hatchback segment, the Baleno RS. Read on to know more why Tata Tiago’s JTP is going to change the way how the performance car market segment will grow in India.
Tata had recently announced their joint venture with Jayem Automotives to develop performance oriented cars in the current lineup. And from there the Tiago JTP got its name, Jayem Tata Performance for JTP. On paper, the Tiago JTP has a bigger displacement to offer with a four-cylinder 1.2L revotron turbocharged petrol engine which churns out 112bhp at 6,000rpm and 150Nm of peak torque at 2,000rpm along with a 5-speed manual transmission. As compared to the on-paper performance of the Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno RS which has a smaller four-cylinder 1.0L engine churning out 101bhp at 5,500rpm and 150Nm of torque at 1,700rpm and it comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Tiago JTP clearly winning the on-paper performance battle against the Baleno RS, this takes away all the shine from the Baleno RS and the Tiago JTP is surely the one to look out for.
This definitely will attract a lot of young enthusiasts who are looking for a hatchback which packs more performance than its competitors at a price that is unmatchable in the industry and with Tata being known for their excellent built quality, it sure seems tempting to invest in this pocket rocket! I hope this encourages other brands like Ford and Honda to bring in their performance hatches to India.
