German carmaker- Audi has been on a launch spree in the Indian market off late and one product which it has never brought to out shores is the Audi A1. The A1 is Audi’s hot-selling products outside India, especially in the European markets and the hatchback is now due for it’s second generation avatar.
The A1 will also lose out on it’s three door variant and will only bee sold in the normal five door spec. Codenamed AU270, aesthetically, the second gen A1 will be updated with sharper headlamps, new alloy wheel design and leaner tail lamps.
If launched in India, the A1 will compete directly with the BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes Benz A Class. In all fairness, luxury hatchback’s haven’t been doing that well in India which might be the only reason that Audi will shy bringing in the A1 in India. For the rest of the world, the A1 will be first showcased at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October later this year.
It will be based on VW group’s MQB AO platform and will be powered by a three cylinder 1.0-L TSI turbocharged engine along with a 1.5-litre TSI petrol and a 1.6-litre four cylinder diesel. You will be able to choose between a six-speed DSG gearbox or a six-speed manual gearbox for the same.
