The Kaptur is a much-awaited SUV from Renault that will be coming to India by this Festive season. Kaptur will be placed above the Duster in Renault’s lineup in India and prices are expected to start around Rs. 13 Lakhs. It looks modern and rugged (in a sophisticated manner) from every angle. The cabin has 7-inch touchscreen infotainment and climate control system which look a lot like the one in the updated Renault Duster. That’s two features for which Renault India can raid the Duster parts bin.
Under the hood of the Renault Kaptur will be a 1.5-litre diesel engine which will be borrowed from the Duster and the petrol variant will most likely be powered by a 1.6-litre engine. Earlier this year, the Kaptur was unveiled in Russia as a part of Renault’s plan to expand its portfolio there. Built on the Renault Captur hatchback, the crossover is bigger than its sibling. Measuring all of 4333mm in length, it isn’t going to fall in the sub-4 metre class. But with all-wheel drive, centre differential, elevated ride height and heavy-duty suspension as part of the package, we don’t see that as a matter worth complaining about.
Looks like this festive season, Renault will start strong in the SUV segment, locking horns with the Toyota Innova and the Mahindra XUV 500.
Stay tuned to the wheelz for more such updates and a detailed road test of the upcoming Renault Kaptur.
