The third trailer for Cars 3 has been released by Disney-Pixar and it’s one of the best-cut trailers in the franchise’s history. Taking a more fast-paced, slick, super-charged action movie approach, the new trailer is all about inviting the audience into a new world where Lightning McQueen is pushed back to the shadows by a new-generation of racers. Led by Jackson Storm (Man, that’s one kick ass name!) this new breed of racers is far more advanced, uses all the latest gizmos and gadgets to trains and race and above everything else, is bloody good to look at.
The trailer employs a stylistic take which will make a Fast and Furious movie stand up and take notes. Everything from the selection of background score to the cuts indicate that Cars 3 is now gearing up for a new-age audience who’d like some thrills along with the coming-of-age drama that the first movie was all about. And Jackson Storm, voiced by Armie Hammer looks like a formidable threat to Steve McQueen, voiced by Owen Wilson. As the shot of McQueen’s terrifying crash is once again shown (this time in a night race scene), it only goes on to prove how much Storm’s presence on the track is pushing the champion to go beyond beyond his limits.
And the quote in the background gives us the tease on how #95 is going to find his way back to glory. “You can’t turn back the clock, kid. But you can wind it up again.”
Here’s the official synopsis:
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage.
With a talented voice cast consisting of Owen Wilson, Armie Hammer, Cristela Alonzo, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Paul Dooley, Cheech Marin, Katherine Helmond, Larry the Cable Guy, Angel Oquendo, and Darrell Waltrip, Cars 3 opens in theaters on June 16, 2017.
