2017 Toyota Prius And Camry Hybrid Launched In India

Reiterating how serious it is about the growing hybrid market in India, Toyota India has launched the 2017 models of the Toyota Prius and the Camry Hybrid. Priced at Rs. 38.96 lakh and Rs. 31.98 lakh respectively (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi), the cars will be contributing to the manufacturer’s plans to have a remarkable 20% of their sales to come from hybrid cars by 2020.

The Toyota Prius which is currently in its fourth-generation is based on the company’s Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) and the first car to be built on the same. Available only in the Z8 variant, the 2017 model has a 1.8-liter petrol engine which produces 96bhp of power and 142Nm of torque and an electric motor. Both units work together to produce a cumulative power output of 122bhp. Thanks to its Hybrid Synergy Drive system, the hybrid car has a steady fuel efficiency figure of 26.27kpl. The car also comes with regenerative braking system which charges the battery from the energy produced on applying brakes. Luxury feature onboard include leather upholstery, heated front seats, touchscreen infotainment system, 10-speaker JBL audio system, heads-up display and dual-zone climate control. Safety has also been given due importance with the inclusion of 7 airbags, ABS, seat belt warning, immobilizer, rear seat with ISOFIX mounts, stability control and traction control.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid on the other hand has a 2.5-liter petrol engine working with an electric motor to deliver 202bhp pf power. With the able assistance of its electronically controlled variable transmission, the car is capable of delivering 19.16kpl in fuel efficiency figures. Toyota has thrown in cosmetic updates too in order to make the Camry look fresh amidst all the competition. New LED fog lamps, 15-spoke alloy wheels, LED headlamps with DRLs and auto-folding and reverse linked ORVMs with memory are the latest additions. Step inside and the new faces in the cabin include 12-speaker JBL audio system, high-density dash silencer and acoustic windshield glass and collapsible headrest for front passenger seat. Safety features list is populated with 9 SRS airbags along with a knee bag, new tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle stability control with traction control, rear seats with ISOFIX mounts and hill-start assist control.
