It will cost you as much as an Audi A3 sedan. But the new VW Beetle does have its appeal which the entry-level Audi lacks. Then again, it’s all a matter of perspective and tastes. So if you fancy the bug over a full-size SUV and a competent executive sedan, then you’ll be glad to note that the new model of the Volkswagen Beetle has just been launched in India. Priced at Rs. 28.73 lakh, it isn’t the budget hatchback or the premium hatchback that we always wished it to be. It still remains elusive to many and it still manages to be tempting to the very same group as well.VW wishes to call it the 21st Century Beetle, just in case everyone goes around with a confused mind on what to call a car which already goes by the name of “New Beetle”. And they don’t intend to spoil or trouble you with a dozen variants to choose from. The car will be available in a single, top-of-the-line trim which will feature panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlights with LED DRLs, 16-inch alloys, leather upholstery, chrome garnishes inside and out, to ambient lighting, keyless entry and push-button start. Safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS and ESP.
Engine specs? It has a 1.4-litre TSi unit that produces 147.5bhp and 249Nm of torque. Power drives the front wheels and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox will take care of transmission duties.
