Topless. The word may have sprung up a dozen interesting images in your mind already. And if the first one of those images was that of a convertible, then you are Class One car guy. For that car guy in you, here is one of the most gorgeous cars in production with its top off. Drool all over without shame as the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder has arrived. Drawing attention for all the right reasons at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new cabrio in the Lamborghini line-up will be filling in the gap left behind by the discontinued Gallardo Spyder. With 610bhp of power and 560Nm of torque to draw upon, a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox on the Spyder routes power to all four wheels. The 5.2 litre V10 engine will gladly take you to 100kph in 3.4 seconds. That’s 0.2 seconds more than the coupe and part of that slight lack of acceleration can be attributed to the increased weight. Though the roof is gone, the car has gained weight because of the additional strengthening to the chassis. The electro-hydraulic roof system has also contributed to the total weight gain of 120kgs. Speaking of which, the roof can be lowered in 17 seconds and that too when the car is cruising at 50kph.
And it quite a feat that despite the additional pounds the car is neck-to-neck with its coupe sibling in performance. Top speed is a neck-breaking 324kph. So… you may have to hold on tight and hope that it doesn’t blow your hair right off the head.
Should you crave that “wind in the hair” experience while at the wheel of a snazzy Lambo and have $262,350 to splurge, then the Huracan Spyder is just the one for you. Unless you are turned on by the Ferrari 488 Spider and the McLaren 650S Spider which are also on the rack and ready to be taken home.
