This year’s Frankfurt Motor Show will witness the debuts and unveilings of a number of significant cars. For Jaguar aficionados who always wanted the leaping cat logo to be seen on the front fascia of an SUV, the manufacturer will be unveiling the F-Pace SUV at the event. But until that happens, here isthe official teaser imageof the upcoming challenger to the German and American competition.
Nobody expected Jaguar to turn to the crossover/SUV segment. But hey, we are living in an age when Porsche has already launched an off-roader which is doing extremely well, despite its looks being subjected to criticism. We are living in an age Bentley is about to launch an SUV which can clock 301kph on the speedo. And Rolls Royce is contemplating the idea of stuffing all the creature comforts of a yacht into a super luxury… you got it… SUV.So why not the quintessential British sports car maker? Why not a Jag SUV?
And it turned out good, we must say. The F-Pace doesn’t look like an XE which was backed into the car shed door carelessly. It looks perfectly well-balanced as a design and every inch of its panels belong where it should be. The front end bears the Jaguar family face and it borrows the best styling cues from the XE and the F-Type. Underneath, it uses the same aluminum-rich chassis architecture and suspension as the XE and XF. We’d like to think of it as the love child between the gorgeous F-Type and the elegant Evoque. A blend of SUV practicality and European sports car styling. After all, Jaguar and Land Rover are under the same umbrella now.
The F-Pace wasn’t one of those cars which were kept under the wraps until release. JLR had been testing it extensively in the Middle East and Europe. It even took on the role of a support vehicle for Team Sky during the Tour de France.
Prices and specifications are yet to be announced and we’ll have to wait for the official unveiling at Frankfurt to learn whether the F-Pace is within our budget for the year or not.
Need more to drool over? Jaguar has also released this teaser video which seems to be inspired by the trailer of The Crew.
